-In order to "protect their investment", 2K Games have decided to partner with the Sony-owned company SecuROM to add what they term as "copy-protection" to the game.
-Rootkit-behavior. SecuROM installs various drivers and registry keys that are hidden from both the user and the system. Of course, they say that "This time, it is really not a root kit! We promise!" -- but anyone who vaguely remembers the Sony CD copy protection scandal should know just how much Sony's word is worth on this type of issue.
-Forbidden software. Far from doing nothing, even when the game is registered, activated and otherwise fully "legally" played, SecuROM sits on your PC and monitors what other programs you run. If, for example, you were to run Process Explorer on your PC... you can't play. Sorry. You are not allowed to know anything about what SecuROM does to your computer.
-Uninstall... does not. Even if you decide enough is enough and uninstall Bioshock, SecuROM will still be present on your system. There's no way to easily remove it, nor is any going to be provided. All you have is Sony's word that it does not harm your PC and possibly doesn't consume any system resources.
...itd itd
