Šta je novo?

Gothic 3?

Get ready to lose a chunk of November to the latest in this series of dark horse RPGs

If you haven't played one of the previous Gothics, one of the first things you'll think when you see Gothic 3 in action is "Oblivion." At least that was what was on our mind when we sat down for some hands-on time with an early build of the game. The developers at Piranha Bites and the publishers at Aspyr didn't seem to mind. In fact, they're tickled with the success of Oblivion. From where they're sitting, it's just that many more people who might enjoy Gothic 3.

The Gothic series has been a sort of dark horse among RPGs. The first two games were criticized for their interfaces, but praised for their open gameplay, living worlds, and DIY character development. Addressing the interface complaints, Piranha Bites has refined the combat system to try to make it more accessible and intuitive. You left click for a basic attack, or hold down left click to charge up your attack. If you left click while holding down right click, you'll do a special attack. A regular right click will change your stance based on what you're wielding. We got the hang of it pretty quickly.

This basic system adapts to different contexts. For instance, if you've got a shield equipped, the right click will change you to a defensive posture. There's a new targeting system that makes it easier to deal with group combat. By "soft locking" on a target, you can keep facing and attacking a specific opponent as opposed to flailing away and hoping you hit the right guy.

Like Oblivion, Gothic has always been about being dropped into a living world and making your own way. Gothic I began in the confines of a prison mine, Gothic 2 busted out into a civil war, and now Gothic 3 sprawls across an entire continent of warring orcs and humans. The world stretches across three types of areas: a temperate forested area in the center, where you start, with an icy wasteland to the north where the Nordmar live, and a vast desert to the south where the nomads roam. A day/night cycle passes over the terrain.

This isn't a game about being dropped at one end of the continent and working your way to the other end. Instead, you begin in the center and go where you will. Travel isn't always easy. There are no mounts, although there are some teleportation portals to jump you around. There is some scaling of difficulty as you level up, but it's not global, like it was in Oblivion. There are plenty of areas you won't want to go until you're powerful enough. And there are places you can backtrack if you want an easier time whupping weaker creatures.

The story opens at end of the war that was the subject of Gothic 2. The bad news is that the humans have lost. All but one of their cities have been enslaved by orcs, which sucks since orcs aren't known for their humane labor laws. The war has split the humans into several factions. You have a reputation rating with each city, as well as with factions like the Nordmar, the orcs, the rebels, the rangers, the assassins, the nomads. This rating is a significant factor in how the game unfolds. Unlike most other RPGs, there are no hard-coded good or evil choices. You might even be able to sympathize with the orcs if that's the path you choose.

For instance, if you want to get in good with the orc sympathizers, you'll have to impress the orcs. One of the best ways of doing this is to travel to different towns and win the arena combats in each town. These are one-on-one fights against increasingly difficult opponents. Beat the toughest guy in the town and you're that much closer to winning over the sympathizers.

Or you might want to liberate your fellow humans. You can start a revolution in the cities by talking to characters and convincing them to rise up. Some of them might require quests and others might come around with the right dialog options. If you sway enough people in a city, there's a city-wide fight between orcs and humans. You'll be in the middle of the battle, so under your leadership, the city can free itself. Another option is to just make your way among the desert faction to the south and let the orcs and humans hash it out on their own.

There are no classes in Gothic. Instead, you level up and earn skill points, which you spend building your character however you like by buying skills from trainers. There are some skills that you can only learn from particular factions. For instance, you can only pick up dual-wielding from the Hashishim in the south. These skills can be further modified by perks, such as a bonus vs. orcs or extra attack speed.

The magic system isn't quite as open ended as the skill system. There are three gods and if you want to cast spells, you'll have to commit to one of them, at the exclusion of the other two. Each god has its own arsenal of 12 to 15 unique spells. Choose among an evil god with traditional damaging spells, a good god with healing and buff spells, and an elemental god with ice and water attacks.

We were able to play around with a pretty cool animal transformation spell to disguise our character as the target creature. We were also able to try a summoning spell with a slightly tricky timing gimmick; if you don't cast it just right, the summoned creature won't be very friendly. We were pleased to discover a modicum of realism in the spellcasting: to recover mana, you can't just rest for an hour in the middle of a perilous dungeon. Instead, you have to rest at safe spots, or use potions.

Gothic has a new crafting system that we were able to try at a smithy, which had stations such as a sharpening stone, an anvil, a forge, and a cooling bucket. To make an item, we had to work at each of these stations, processing raw materials and then refining them into weapons according to the character's skills. If you modify your skills with the right perks, you'll be able to create magical weapons. Of course, you'll need to find some magical ore. Crafting also works for more mundane goods. Campfires, for instance, are used to cook food.

All told, we got a sinking feeling while playing Gothic 3. With a fearful eye on the November page of our calendar, we're considering where we were going to carve out the 40 to 60 hours a game like this is liable to consume. If you're an RPG fan, we advise you to do the same.

Ima neko gigu rama na zajam? :D

Pa zar je minimum 1024? Zar nije trebalo 512? Well, who cares..

U tvom slučaju to neće imati neke posebne veze, pošto će ti igra izgledati osakaćeno kako god da okreneš.
