RV790 Reaches 1.00 GHz, Indicates Overclocked SKUs in the Making
Following our report of ASUS preparing an overclocked Radeon HD 4890 accelerator with clock speeds well above 900 MHz (core) and 1000 MHz (memory), the possibility has come to surface that AMD has carved out a new range of Radeon HD 4890 accelerators from the unusually high overclocking headroom the RV790 GPU has. The credit also goes to the reference-design PCB, which is known to possess some of the highest quality digital PWM components to handle power, and 4 GT/s GDDR5 memory, which is now known to have a good overclocking headroom.

It has surfaced on the forums of Chinese tech community PCInLife, that the RV790 rather effortlessly reached the 1 GHz mark, the slider-limit of Catalyst Control Center, sparking off fresh rumors that AMD partners may be creating a fresh niche of highly-overclocked cards shortly after Radeon HD 4890 comes to be. The overclocker reached speeds of 1 GHz (core) and 1125 MHz (4.50 GHz effective, memory). At the said speeds, the card was put through 3DMark Vantage with its eXtreme settings. It churned-out a score of X5480, which puts its performance somewhere between those of the GeForce GTX 280 and GeForce GTX 285. It should also be taken into account that the drivers RV790 users the world over have been using, are preliminary beta drivers. AMD plans to release Catalyst 9.4 with the release of Radeon HD 4890, which just may impact positively on the performance of the product.

Factory-overclocked cards based on ATI Radeon have since now been a formality. Even cards with the iconic HIS IceQ TurboX branding, haven't been known to have high (~15~20%) increase in clock speeds. With this feat surfacing, it has been established that the RV790 holds the capability to reach some very high clock speeds. On course to the 1 GHz mark, the overclocker at PCInLife comfortably reached 925/1025 MHz (X5021) and 950/1075 MHz (X5202). It sounds plausible that these speeds could be the speeds factory-overclocked cards come at, with a branding system similar to what NVIDIA uses: a tier-1 (light overclock), tier-2 (moderate overclock), tier-3 (high overclock), and tier-4 (extreme overclock). At any rate, this is turning out to be an exciting fortnight for the high-end GPU industry.

Pa ne mirise ali treba sacekati i prave drajvere za njega, pa cemo tek tada (mozda) sve znati ...
S drajverima su bili uvek uzas kolko su sporo izlazili ali u poslednje 1-2 godine su to popravili, mada i dalje ih sporije izbacuju od zelenih a nekima znaci ta 2, 4 ili 8 frejmova vise u omiljenoj igri...

i sa vodenim hladjenjm mozes postici te temperature ili mozda je isao neshto extremnije pa senzor graficke zakucao na tih 39C

Nešto novo će biti na jesen tek. Ne isplati se sada ni njima da žure sa izbacivanjem nove generacije ipak je kriza svuda pa i oni racionalizuju maksimalno. Pretpostavljam da ne jure svi da kupuju nove grafičke. A i bolje lepo neka se uhoda 40 nm proces pa da izbace neke zverine na jesen, realno sve ove sadašnje karte zadovoljaju..Mada svi volimo kada izlazi neka nova generacija pa onda bude interesantno u početku videti kako koja karta gura frejmove

E, briga me za dx11 kad kazem novo mislim na znacajnije ubrzanje.Treba uskoro da uzmem novu kartu pa sam malo nervozan

Five cards at Salland.eu

The HD 4890 is probably the card with the most confusing launch date ever. First, rumors were floating that the card should be launched on April 6th, then, the week of April 6th, or April 9th, and the latest rumor is the April 2nd, thanks to the GTX 275's April 6th launch date. (At least it's not April 1)

And now, Dutch e-tailer/bean spiller Salland.eu apparently decided to have a March 25th launch of its own, and it already has five cards available. The card comes from XFX and it has 1GB of GDDR5 memory. The price is €259,95 and as far as we could tell it's bundled with Ubisoft's Tom Clancy: H.A.W.X. game. Salland.eu has a nice picture of the cards box as well, but it still unclear if this card is really available.

In any case, those that want it before the actual reviews start appearing all over the net, might want to try to order it from this e-tailer. We are quite sure that Salland.eu will receive a phone call from AMD or XFX, and that the listing will be taken down pretty soon.

Here are some updates of HD4890. More benchmark results released, which include 3DMark06 scores with 8xAA and 16xAF in different resolutions settings, as well as some game benchmarks. The card seems to be patched, and GPU-Z is able to show more correct specs of the card (thanks to Wizzard). Both GPU and memory are overclocked. With the same test setup, it scores higher on 3Dmark Vantage but not on 3DMark06 this time (SM3.0 is lower).

Like we said before, it's still too early to make any judgments only based upon the current benchmark results. The driver is still under beta state. Perhaps there will be a slight performance boost when it comes to final.

Ovo bre nema veze sa zivotom, po ovim grafikonima moja stara 4870 radi bolje od ove karte. Kako bre ne mrzi ljude da kache ovakve gluposti, jedino ako stvarno ATI za**** sam sebe pa se unazadi. :d
