Paypal Statement about Serbia
We at PayPal acknowledge with appreciation the interest of the people in Serbia in our services. Currently PayPal services are unfortunately not yet available in Serbia, but we would like to let you know that we are working closely with relevant Serbian authorities towards our common aim to bring PayPal services to your country. For PayPal, this is part of a project with global dimensions, aimed at moving simultaneously into a number of countries in various regions around the world.
PayPal and the Serbian National Bank, Finance Ministry and Digital Agenda Administration have engaged in an active and positive dialogue, aimed at enabling PayPal services in Serbia. Our co-operation is making good progress, and we provide regular updates on the project. We appreciate that our Serbian interlocutors has been very supportive in this process, enthusiastically demonstrating to PayPal the opportunity in that Serbia represents and also the needs of local internet users. This dialogue aiso soived many reguiatory uncertainties as regards the functioning of key components for the provision of international PayPal services to the residents of Serbia. An official position of the National Bank of Serbia and the Ministry of Finance confirms that there are no specific burdens or barriers for enabling PayPal services in Serbia. PayPal is very grateful for this support and wants to recognise the contribution of our interlocutors in the Serbian National Bank, Finance Ministry and Digital Agenda Administration.
PayPal is now assessing the scale of product development which will be necessary to expand the service and enable new countries. Several countries have signalled interest in enabling PayPal services and PayPal has engaged in dialogues with the respective local authorities, similar to the dialogue with Serbia. In fact, the most efficient way for PayPal to realise this big project is by enabling several countries simultaneously. This means, however, that the progress of the entire project is dependent on the progress in the individual countries. Also, the technology necessary to provide PayPal services in new countries takes significant time to be developed and implemented. One main reason for this lies in the complexity of such a global and secure product as PayPal's. Another lies in the fast pace of change in the global payments landscape. Therefore progress takes some time, but we understand the impatience of some our potential future customers.
We are pleased to confirm to you that Serbia is part of the group of countries that are listed for the next PayPal expansion project. We are continuing our dialogue with the relevant Serbian authorities, as with the authorities in the other countries that belong to the imminent group, to provide regular updates on the realisation of this business project.
