Mene je prilično smorilo kad sam pročitao da će koristiti FB i zašto su se uopšte odlučili na takav potez - niko od izdavača i VC kompanija kojima su prišli nije hteo da finansira igru sa prvobitno zamišljenim dizajnom, bili su u fazonu "ako možete ovo da napravite za 10x manju sumu, super, obratite nam se ponovo". Onda sam video galeriju shotova i par in-game snimaka, i povratilo mi se raspoloženje. 🙂

Think of Facebook as the account management system. Just like how Relic used Quazal to provide their network/login/account information.

Not very enthusiastic about the Facebook thing, but... Am I right in thinking that in scale this is a full-fledged game that's tied to Facebook, rather than a 'Facebook game' in the vein of Farmville?

As this product has been developed, I've learned a lot about game development just by watching this studio be built (I'm usually in the BBI office once a week for a full day). I expect this will make a few game developers sit up and take notice.It's a new type of game.

Ni ja nisam fan preskupih periferija: 10eur A4tech tast + 30eur MX518 i vec par godina sve sljaka ko prvog dana. 🙂
 
Pazi, ja sam fan preskupih periferija (ili nerd 🙂 ) Ali hoću da znam za šta sam dao parice. Recimo, nije mi bilo žao da dam 70 eur za Steelseries 6G v2 tastaturu. Ok i to je precenjeno ali za uzvrat dobiješ robusnu mehaničku tastaturu sa Cherry black tasterima (50 miliona klikova), Metalnom pločom koja ide po dužini tastature, pozlatama na kontaktima, ojačanom plastikom i vrhunsku kvalitetnu izradu. Znači bez LED diodica koje pregorevaju, bez potenciometara koji se baguju čim uđe prašina, beza komplikovanih firmware-a i drivera koji često prave glavobolje itd...
 
Ti si samo jos jedan od onih koji misle da su dobili nesto do jaja a u stvari te je prevario klasicni marketing 🙂
 
Bio sam prevaren više puta, zato što sam ložana, ali ovu tastaturu koristim već 2 meseca i ne žalim para... U prethodnom postu sam napisao da je i ovo precenjen hardver ali da manje više ima logike. Inače nema mnogo jeftinijih mehaničkih tastatura na tržištu.
 
Pa ****ga, ti si zeleo da budes prevaren 🙂 Za tastaturu ne vredi dati 70 EUR makar bila i od zlata. Sve te price o ekstra dizajnu, ojacanom plastikom, super tasterima... verovao ili ne, kada bi nasao IBM tastaturu proizvedenu pre 2000. godine zacudio bi se koliko je kvalitetna i koliko to cudo koje imas ispred sebe ne vredi nista.
 
Poenta je da sam imao IBM-ovu tastaturu od pre 2000. god. Ali se više ne prave... Baš zbog toga sam je i kupio. Inače mehaničke tastature su izbacili iz upotrebe baš zbog skuplje proizvodnje a dali su nam ove koje su sada u upotrebi (membranske).

Odabraše Nvidiju koja verovatno nema ništa jače što može da stane u to kućište a da se ne istopi u toku rada. :d

Well we’re making PC games! That’s what we do, right? And we watch the rest of the industry very closely while we’re doing that. We’ve of course noticed that there’s a trend that’s going on with AAA publishers (and actually the industry as a whole), where some companies are moving towards bigger and bigger AAA games, and others are going more and more casual in the Farmville direction. It definitely feels like a polarisation of where the companies in our industry are going. We feel, though, that the middle road, what Cliff Bleszinski says is the “dead” middle class of gaming, is where we are and have always been – cerebral games for smart gamers – and that is where the PC shines. We can make whatever we want, without restrictions.
Anyway, we are now in a place where there are many classical PC games that now have people doing remakes and new takes on them. One of these is Syndicate, which is being developed at Starbreeze. It was the worst kept secret in the Swedish games industry! But now it’s out there, and we were very interested in the reaction to it. Meanwhile we were kicking around a lot of ideas for what kinds of cool games we’d like to see made because nobody else is making them anymore. During this time there was someone over at 2K who said you could not make turn-based games anymore, that the new X-Com had to be a shooter because you can’t do turn-based games anymore.
Thanks to Magicka and Mount & Blade we are in a very comfortable situation now at Paradox, so we can find something fun and just do it. 2K and the others might need to sell five million copies of their game, and might only be able to do that with a shooter, but we don’t have that worry. We can make games that hearken back to the 90s. That’s what we’re doing here, and it was very easy to find a number of studios in Sweden that were interested in working on this with us, because Sweden has a very strong PC heritage.

Paradox are developing a game called Cartel. The timing is interesting, because this is a game of two familiar halves: one real-time squad-based RTS action, the other on a global research and diplomacy map. And it is set in a near-future world of global mega-corporations, or “cartels”, battling for ultimate supremacy. Sound familiar? It should do. This is the antidote to EA’s new Syndicate being an FPS, and Paradox aren’t too shy about it. I talked to Paradox’s Shams Jorjani about what the Swedish publisher is up to, and whether this could be regarded as Syndicate: Total War.

Sta nvidia kaze o buducnosti pc gaming-a

During an NVIDIA conference call, a couple of interesting tidbits were disclosed that adds some fuel to the 'PC vs. Console' fire - and for once, they work to the favor of PC gamers. Would you believe that by 2014, PC game sales are expected to surpass console game sales?
As of 2008, boxed copies of games had paltry sales compared to digital sales, and nothing at all looks to change. During 2011, nearly $15 billion is going to be attributed to digital sales while $2.5 billion belong to boxed copies. This is a trend I have to admit I am not surprised by. I'll never purchase another boxed copy if I can help it.

The death of PC gaming has long been a mocking-point of console gamers, but recent trends show that the PC has nothing to stress over. One such trend is free-to-play, where games are inherently free, but support paid-services such as purchasing in-game items. This has proven wildly successful, and has even caused the odd MMORPG to get rid of it subscription fee. It's also caused a lot of games to be developed with the F2P mechanic decided from the get-go.

Bas me zanima koliko ce da traje ova "nova" pozitivna PC prica... Zavisi od toga kada ce da izadju nove konzole i kakve ce biti (koncept, ne samo snaga).
 
Mogli su da naprave i grafik sa optimizacijom (koliko sama igra ume da iskoristi hardver koji joj se dodeli) na obe platforme. Da bude potpun doživljaj.

Izgleda da je Tim Cain (tvorac Fallouta, Arcanuma i Bloodlines-a) prešao u Obsidian 🙂 Pročitao na nma. Ovo bi moglo da bude mnogo lepo.
