Right now, Kinect only works when you stand. This includes menu navigation. All the cool options to grab a slider and advance through frames of a movie you are watching only work when you are on your feet.
Kinect, we've been told, has problems handling your skeletal frame while sitting. The voice commands still work, but every game we've seen and even simple menu navigation have to be done with you out of your seat. That's not exactly how I want to watch my movies. If the focus for Kinect is creating games like Dance Central that naturally would require you to be off your couch, that's great. But I have to say, no one thinks "I am driving a car!" while standing up in their living room.

MS-ov PR je odgovorio sledecim tweetom:

Yes you can sit or stand with Kinect, depends on the game or experience.

MIAMI--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Burger King Corp. (NYSE:BKC) today announced that it has joined forces with Microsoft to support the launch of the highly-anticipated Kinect™ for Xbox 360®, where you are the controller. Hitting shelves Nov. 4, Kinect for Xbox 360 brings games and entertainment to life in extraordinary new ways, no controller required, and is predicted to be the hottest “must have” gift of the holiday season.

“By making you the controller, Kinect for Xbox 360 is uniquely magical and instantly fun. We’re excited to partner with the BURGER KING® brand to bring that magic to everyone this holiday season.”
This latest alliance builds on the innovative relationship that Burger King Corp. and Xbox forged in 2006 when they created a highly successful series of limited-edition games for Xbox 360 featuring the King, Subservient Chicken and other popular BURGER KING® brand icons.

“Our first endeavor with Xbox 360 took the gaming world by storm, so we couldn’t pass up the chance to come together on another cutting-edge program,” said Mike Kappitt, chief marketing officer, North America, Burger King Corp. “During this year’s promotion, our guests can look forward to an even greater adventure that will stimulate the imaginations of gamers and entertainment-lovers of all shapes and sizes. While full details of the promotion are still top secret, we’re proud to be the first and only brand in our industry to stand behind this pioneering experience that will forever change the way the world looks at entertainment.”

Poslednja izmena:
Microsoft has listed the standalone Kinect kit at $149.99, going some way to confirming the price point that's cropped up across retail sites over the past week.

A page on Microsoft's official store reveals the price point alongside a slew of technical specifications as well as listing what the $149.99 gets you. The pack includes the 640 x 480 camera as well as a wi-fi extension cable and a power supply cable. If you've less than 6 feet spare in your living room/gaming dungeon you need not apply as this is what's listed as required to get Kinect up and running.

Svejedno meni ovo izgleda kul.

Slicno i ja razmisljam.

I to naplacuju $150?

Videcemo.

Kinect will cost £129.99/€149.99, and come bundled with launch title Kinect Adventures, Microsoft has confirmed.

Preskupo.

Kinect will not support voice control for dashboard navigation at launch

Microsoft has confirmed to MCV that Kinect will not boast any voice control functionality at launch.

Speaking at Gamescom, marketing manager for Xbox Live EMEA Robin Burrowes stated that “we will be announcing when voice control will be turned on in due course”.

Earlier demonstrations of Kinect had depicted users switching between various functions and selecting media on Xbox 360 by simply telling the console what it was they wanted it to do. The peripheral will also be able to recognise the voices of individual users.

Earlier this month the platform holder touted such functionality as one of the key reasons why hardcore gamers will be keen to be amongst the first owners of the device.

Kinect will launch in the UK on November 10th.

UPDATE: MCV can also confirm that chat software Video Kinect will also not feature as part of the accessory's launch. Like voice control, that will also arrive at a later date.

UPDATE: Microsoft has confirmed that Kinect WILL launch with voice control.

In a statement given to Eurogamer Microsoft said: "Voice control is an exciting part of the Kinect for Xbox 360 controller-free experience and we can confirm that it will be available at launch in November 2010.

😀

Microsoft's Latest Video Game Gamble
Investors think Microsoft would do better if it just exited consumer businesses

Microsoft needs Natal—or whatever it's called by the time it goes on sale—to be a hit. The technology is inarguably cool, and is a rare bright spot in Microsoft's decade-old—and thus far mostly disappointing—push to move beyond PCs and into game consoles, music players, and smartphones. Operating income at its Entertainment & Devices unit, which is responsible for those products, is expected to come in at $773 million for the year that ends June 30, according to UBS Securities (UBS). That's a 10 percent operating margin, compared with 72 percent for Windows, its most profitable business. While the Xbox is a strong No. 2 in the video game market (after the Nintendo Wii), the entertainment division has lost $8.6 billion on sales of $49 billion since 1999, estimates Katherine Egbert of Jeffries & Co. An initiative to build Internet-based TV systems has yet to take off, and its iPod-like Zune music players have bombed. While Apple (AAPL) just sold its two millionth iPad, Microsoft recently scrapped a tablet code-named Courier. In smartphones, Microsoft's share in the first quarter was 6.8 percent, down from 10.2 percent the year before.

Even as the company hypes Natal and its new mobile software, Windows Phone7, investors don't expect smash hits; in fact, they'd settle for small losses on these and other gadgets. "It's hard to make the case this has been a good use of shareholder capital," says Todd S. Lowenstein, who runs HighMark Capital's value fund. "I don't fault them for trying this stuff, but investors are getting impatient." Other investors suggest that, like IBM (IBM) a decade ago, Microsoft should refocus its efforts on its massively profitable PC and corporate software businesses. Its cash from operations last quarter alone was $7.4billion, a company record. Yet its shares are down about 50percent since Steve Ballmer took over as CEO on Jan.13, 2000. "The stock would go up if Microsoft exited its consumer businesses," says Bill Whyman of ISI Group.
