Everything You Need to Know About Assassin's Creed Unity Before Launch;
1; It is the same as the previous games. but 'reskinned'
2; Ubisoft fashioned the game on, 'running away' a lot, they are French 'Canadian'
3; The game is basically the exact same as the first AC1, RELEASED IN 2007!
4; It has taken 7 years to add a basic co-op/multi player
5; Effectively the game is now what they could have made it IN 2007,
6; The story is about Alien Technology and the Illuminati
7; The 'story' has a lot more truth than you'd ever care to research
8; YOU have the DNA of the original alien 'gods'
9; I just ruined the final piece of the very 'fina'l game - This will be it!
10; consider yourself enlightened
Have a good day
Dakle,
na kraju Rogue,
poslednji Assassin
koga ce ubiti Shay
je Charles Dorian, Arnoov otac.
Maxed out (for testing purposes) with all the nVidia stuff.. I was barely above 30fps at all times. Sometimes it dropped into the 20s. (Sometimes it was also in the 40s though). Gonna play the same section again on different settings and go a bit past that to see if it changes later on.
i7 2600k and GTX 780 @ 1080p with Vsync turned OFF.
Ubisoft Kiev ladies and gentlemen! Said it before and will say it again stay away from the PC version!
Running through Paris, with the crowds and all - I get 45-60 fps with FXAA and everything else maxed out. Some odd stuttering though, might be loading..
If you want to pre-load on PC, Steam version:
1. Use OpenVPN, connect to a Canadian server from vpngate (run OpenVPN as admin)
2. Start Steam and begin to preload the game
3. Quit Steam (I didn't pause the preload, but don't know if it matters)
4. Disconnect the VPN
5. Start Steam again
6. You will now be pre-loading in your full local speed
Performance at "max" settings, without context and deep understanding what these settings entail, is completely irrelevant for judging the technical quality of a game, and it's highly damaging how often it seems to be used to evaluate the same. I've wanted to make a thread about this for a while, and seeing how there is right now another one on the front page with "max settings" in the title it seems as good a time as ever.
These days, many people seem to judge the "optimization" (a broadly misunderstood term if I ever saw one!) of games on how they run at "max" settings. What does this mean in practise? Let's say I'm porting a game to PC, and I'm trying to decide which options to include. I could easily add the option of rendering shadow depth buffers at 32 bit precision and up to 4096x4096 instead of the 16 bit and 1024² default. But what would this actually cause to happen? Basically, it will improve IQ and image stability, especially at very high resolution. However, let's assume for the sake of argument that it also halves the framerate of my port, when enabled.
In the prevailing simplistic mindset, I just went from a "great, optimized port" to a "piece of shit port showing how my company is disrespectful of PC gamers" merely by adding an option to my game.
I hope everyone can see how fucking insane this is. As a developer aware of this, I basically have 2 options:
Only allow access to higher-end settings via some ini file or other method which is not easily accessible.
Simply don't bother with higher-end settings at all.
The first point wouldn't be too bad, but it seems like the much more rare choice. If the prevailing opinion of my game's technical quality actually goes down by including high-end options, then why bother at all?
Of course, gamers are not to blame for this exclusively. Review sites got into the habit of benchmarking only "max" settings, especially during the latter part of the PS360 generation, simply because GPUs wouldn't be challenged at all in the vast majority of games otherwise.
Judging game performance at "max settings" is enormously counterproductive
