Adopting P891 as reference design, GeForce GTX285 remains 10.5” length just as GTX280. And its cooler is dual-slot designed with dual DVI and S-Video output. The graphic memory carries on 1GB GDDR3, and its stream processors is 240. The frequency of GeForce GTX285 remains to be confirmed, but its performance can get up to 110% of GTX280.
We can regard GeForce GTX285 as GTX280 Overclocking Edition with less power consumption. GeForce GTX280’s Maximum Graphics Card Power is 236W, and it requires a 6-pin and a 8-pin PEG Power Connectors. However, GeForce GTX285’s power consumption has been reduced to 183W with only 2 6-pin PEG power connectors needed.
GeForce GTX285 with highest clock and lowest power consumption is undoubtedly the most powerful card in single-GPU cards, while new GeForce GTX260 arouses the most attention in middle and high-end cards’ price war. Dual-GPU GeForce GTX295 is expected to regain the crown of performance. All of these will happen in January 2009.
Nvidia is planning to launch its next-generation high-end GT300 GPU in the first quarter of 2009. The GPU will be manufactured under a 55nm process, according to sources at graphics card makers.
The company is also planning to showcase two GT200-based cards at CES 2009, which will start on January 8.
The GeForce GTX 295 features two 55nm GT200 GPUs, while the GeForce GTX 285 will have a single GT200 GP, noted the sources.
The core frequencies of the two cards will be 10-15% faster than Nvidia's previous generation cards, while power consumption is 10-15% lower.
Nvidia declined the opportunity to respond to this report saying it cannot comment on unannounced products.
Nvidia confirms GTX 285

January launch
Sources close to Nvidia have confirmed that there will be a GTX 285, a faster 55nm based GTX 280 card with slightly higher clock and they even went out and said that it will be available in January.
January is also the time for real availability of GTX 260 at 55nm, but in all fairness, you might be lucky enough to get some of these cards in Europe or Japan before the end of this year.
The new GTX 285 should be clocked at 648MHz core, 1476MHz Shaders and 2.48GHz memory, at least that is what our sources believe. The card has 32 ROPs, 80 TMUs and 240 Shaders, but this time around the card's TDP is 183W, while the GTX 280 has a 236W TDP, 602MHz core clock, 1296MHz Shaders and 2.2GHz memory.
We are sure that someone might be capable of launching a 700MHz GTX 285, with a little help in the overclocking department.

According to some documents VR-Zone has seen, Nvidia is preparing move to 40nm process technology for their top to bottom GPU line-up by Q2 next year.
This transition to 40nm will first take place with their high end GT212 GPU in Q2 follows by the mainstream GT214 and GT216 as well as value GT218 in Q3. GT212 will be replacing the 55nm GT200 so you can expect pretty short lifespan for the upcoming GTX295 and GTX285 cards.
As for the mainstream and value segment, GT214, GT216 and GT218 will be replacing G94, G96 and G98 respectively. We are looking at 4 desktop SKUs for GT216 and 6 desktop SKUs for GT218 at least so you can expect different clocks and memory configurations/types.
For the IGP segment, iGT209 will be replacing current GeForce 9400/9300 motherboard GPU series. Last but not least, you can expect DX11 capable GT300 to appear in Q4 next year.
