Q: I have a 48x writer that seems to write with 16x maximum!
A: The recorder analyzes the disk every time you insert an empty CD.
There are information about the media itself in the already stamped pre-groove. The recorder will find
information about the actual manufacturer, the disk-capacity size and chemical ingredients (Dye) of the disk.
The Dye gives information on the quality or nature and the behaviour of the disk under certain degrees of
heat.
You will “burn” a CD with more then 300° Celsius. Furthermore the writing speed is variable between 4x and
48x. If writing faster to the disk, the laser-power has to be higher and accordingly lower if writing with
less speed.
If you insert a media, the recorder will chose the maximum writing-speed by itself in order to not harm the
disk.
It then can happen that a media (even labelled with 48x or 52x) will not be written to with utmost speed,
because the Dye (chemical ingredients) will not allow to write faster.
For now you can solve the problem by changing the brand of media, only.
In order to reach the best performance you can chose Memorex, TDK and TEAC
Q: Is it possible for me to flash my TEAC device with a Firmware from TEAC Japan or TEAC America?
A: No! TEAC literally parts the world in the American, Asian and European sector.
The devices meet the restrictions and specifications of each country.
Above all the Firmware has to adapt region-specific peculiarities to other devices.
