Starpoint Gemini is an RPG tactical sim focused on the control and strengths of individual vessels. In SPG ship captains and their skills make the greatest difference in large-scale battles. The games is set in a science-fiction universe where various thriving technological directions exist side by side.

Players will freely traverse the rich and filled vastness of the Gemini star system, fight skirmishes with rogue ships, trade commodities, research anomalies, buy new vessels, upgrade their ships with state-of-the-art technology, increase their experience and rank to learn more powerful maneuvers and ultimately use all that in large scale engagements against other fleets of hostile ships.

Gemini is a dangerous place with riches waiting to be claimed by the more daring and capable captains.

K, so far I'm liking the manual. The game LOOKS Freelancer-ish, but in a lot of ways it's more detailed. Your ship has a crew which can affect its performance it seems, cargo actually seems to matter this time, and the ships systems are more detailed as well. The manual is about 60 pages long, and gives decent detail on ships systems.

It looks like you can only dock with stations, as I'm not finding anything about planetary landings, but I'm okay with that.

The manual says there are over "300 various ship systems" with which you can upgrade your ship, and systems come in classes, which limit the systems you can put on your ship, apparently.

It looks like there's a dynamic economy as "prices do change" on stations for commodities, and mining is a component in the game, which makes me happy. (I love mining). :) You can also salvage derelicts for loot and scan anomalies for money and experience.

The game has a button for "combat mode" which transfers a lot of power to weapons and shields, slowing you down. You can also target ship's subsystems as well. The combat portion of the manual lists out special abilities as well as tips to maximize effectiveness in combat.

There are also RPG elements. Every five levels gives you a new rank, up until level thirty. You also get perks such as energy efficiency, navigation, evader, space wolf and more. Each levels also gains "maneuver points" which you use use on available maneuvers, such as evasive maneuvers, power to engines, gunnery boosts and so on. These seem like perks as well, though, so I'm a tad confused whether these are permanent or not.

Oohh, you can also capture other vessels using your own on-board troopers. I like that. :)

So in going through this manual, I'm pretty excited about this game. Sounds like it has the variety and freedom of a game like Freelancer, but with more detail and an actual working economy. In a month I guess we'll find out if it's actually GOOD. :)
