Rumor: VMware kupuje Suse Linux od Novella

Već se dugo zna da Novell traži kupca, izgleda da će biti nešto od toga.

Novell Inc. is in advanced talks with at least two buyers, including VMware Inc., to sell the software company in separate pieces, people familiar with the matter said.

VMware is pursuing Novell's SUSE Linux operating system business, these people said. Attachmate Corp., a private-equity backed software company, could end up buying some or all of the remaining assets, including NetWare, Novell's network operating system. Novell Inc. has reached a deal in principle to sell itself in two partswith the Linux SuSE systems portion sold to a strategic buyer and the remainder sold to private equity, and is three to four weeks away from signing a deal, the New York Post reported on Wednesday citing people familiar.

"Both deals are expected to close simultaneously and the company will be de-listed...talks are in a sensitive stage and could fall apart," the New York Post reported. The Wall Street Journal followed up with an article pointed to VMware, Oracle, EMC and Red Hat as potential buyers.

Mene samo zanima kako ce se ovo odraziti na korisnike openSUSE linuxa. Ne bi bilo lepo da ista sudbina zadesi i openSUSE kao sto je nedavno zadesila opensolaris.

Ako ih kupi VMWare, mislim da ce fokusirati razvoj enterprise i cloud resenja, ali ce biti pomaka i na desktop planu jer ce im to ici u prilog. Ali bice velikih promena sigurno.

Sacekaj prvo da vidis kako ce se stvari odigrati, ako ga kupi Oracle ili RedHat mislim da bi mogao da trazis zamenu (ali ne mora da znaci) a ako ga kupi VMWare mislim da si miran, ali ponovo ne mora da znaci

i ja mislim da ce oni to "gurnuti" u cloud enterprise resenje, jer koliko vidim na tom trzistu se vodi opasna bitka za "primatom :whip:".
