Hi i was just wondering if anyone could give me any help with temperatures for my AMD 3700+ clawhammer i know the clawhammers run hot but not too sure what is too hot for it i was using a thermalright heatsink with standard thermal paste then i purchased a zalman cnps 9500 led which i have applied with some arctic silver thermal paste and idle i get 50-52c temp under load i get 60-63c which i consider to be quite hot for the processor and i am now running out of ideas of what to try next as i dont really want to go to water cooling as i am quite new to the modding scene and dont really trust myself with it lol....
My system specs are .....
AMD 3700+ Clawhammer SKT 754
1 GB Corsair xms 3200
128mb Geforce 6800 LE
80GB Hdd
DFI Lanparty NF3 250GB Ultra motherboard
I hope i have supplied enough information and am able to resolve this issue quite soon
Kind Regards Pinky.

Hi,
Those temps are quite high, how much arctic silver did you put on? Just a drop the size of rice-grain is enough ( too much of it does the opposite of what it should do). How is your air-flow, does your case have a front intake with fan and and rear outake with fan.
I had also some temperature probs, cpu-temp idle 54C and under load 67C (and rising), after installing an extra fan (in the front) and using artic silver my temps are idle 39-41C and load 54-56C, acceptable!
Some times the bios reads the temps NOT correct and an bios update could help.
I've got an AMD 64 3400+ on an asus k8v se deluxe with a Zalman cnps7000a-aicu and 2 case-fans
Everybody uses different fans and ways of cooling keep that in mind, when you compare your temps with others.

Hi thanks for the reply i used a small amount on artic silver applied to the cpu i have 3 case fane 1 on front sucking in, 1 on back blowing out and 1 on top blowing out all wires are far away from the board and sort of tied up in a bundle to reduce the amount of space they take up and giving more room for air to circulate
just a note before i installed the Zalman it used to idle at around 60c and under load sometimes would just shut down and restart itself at around 74-75c which i was quite surprised about especially annoying when you are recoding a dvd using nero and left it for about a hour or so....
I hope that answers your question about fans and maybe solve me problem well not so much of a problem anymore but still quite hot i think
Many Thanks Pinky

Yep it is quite hot, but when it's running stable under load you should not worry about it too much, just enjoy!
I 've had the same problems, when running 3dmark05 the system freezed or shut itself down and restarted again. Every time my mobo was "crying"that my cpu temperature was much to high.... So after putting an extra fan in and re-installing my heatsink with some arctic silver the problems were gone (I reapplied the heatsink 2 times cause i had the feeling i used to much arctic silver, the second time i used way less and the temperatures were a few degrees down, compared with the first time after "setting in"). I've also installed a new bios, didn't make any difference... But bundling your cables is a very good thing for a good airflow, i've also did it.
Maybe you should run prime95/burn-in test or burnk7 to test if your system is now stable enough to run a few hours under full load.

ok thanks i will try that out and see how it goes at the moment i am recoding a series of sledge hammer from video to dvd format which is quite heavy for a long duration seems to be stable as the process takes around 2 hours to do and cpu temp in everest home edition shows as 60c and idle seems to be slowy decreasing to around the 45-50,s which is a bit better
Many Thanks for your help and i will test out your info

I have the same exact problem as you. I have a Clawhammer 3400+ that runs at 44 degree Celcius when idle with Cool'n'Quiet enabled and 55 degree Celcius with Cool'n'Quiet disabled. Under full load (with Prime95 torture test) the temperature stablizes at 68 degree Celcius. I see that the Zalman heatsink/fan has reduced the temperature, but I still think that's too much when compared to other CPU in this class. You should stress test your CPU for a few minutes (atleast 5 minutes) using Prime 95 (download here) and post your maximum temperature on this forum. Just out of curiousity, do you have an OEM CPU that came with HP/Compaq system?
BTW, if you haven't done so already, install the AMD Cool'n'Quiet driver (download here for Windows XP). It can reduce your idle temperature by ~10 degree Celcius.
