A few days ago, Microsoft announced the Metro format which has similar functions with the Adobe’s PDF format. The main features of this format are the possibilities of displaying and printing the content in the exact form as the original document.

The only advantage Microsoft has in the Metro vs. Adobe PDF battle is their intention to include as many functions and standards as possible, which is a totally different attitude compared to Adobe’s.

Microsoft will rely a lot on the possibility of saving the files from any Windows application, the user being able to open, view and share the file without the aid of the program that originally created the document. The same technology will be also used to send the information stored in file to a printer, and so, Metro will use the same method for decoding and displaying of the graphical elements as Longhorn’s Avalon.
