As #1000 said, I'm going to group my previous posts with more details.
Devices: 2 x Nexus 6p (brand new, unboxed on Christmas Day), Nexus 5 (Dec 2013). Using (A) and (B) to differentiate each Nexus 6p.
Total shutdowns: 4
Shutdown #1:
- Date: 12/25/16
- Device: (A) Nexus 6p.
- Android version: 6.0.1.
- Device status: full stock (no root, locked bootloader, no custom ROM / Kernel, no custom launcher).
- Battery level: 37%
- Battery after plugging the charger: 0%.
- What was I doing: Nexus 6p was turned on for the first time. After initial setup (language, wifi, google account...), I opened the camera app, changed the options to remove geolocation and to record video on 4k, took a few photos and device died.
Shutdown #2:
- Date: 12/25/16
- Device: (B) Nexus 6p.
- Android version: 6.0.1.
- Device status: full stock (no root, locked bootloader, no custom ROM / Kernel, no custom launcher).
- Battery level: 42%
- Battery after plugging the charger: 42%.
- What was I doing: exactly same steps as in the previous case. The difference between one shutdown and the other, was that in this case the battery remained the same after turn on the device again.
Shutdown #3:
- Date: 12/28/16
- Device: (B) Nexus 6p.
- Device status: full stock (no root, locked bootloader, no custom ROM / Kernel, no custom launcher).
- Android version: 7.1.1.
- Battery level: <50%.
- Battery after plugging the charger: 0%.
- What was I doing: device was idling in my desktop.
Shutdown #4:
- Date: 12/28/16
- Device: Nexus 5.
- Device status: full stock (no root, locked bootloader, no custom ROM / Kernel, no custom launcher).
- Android version: 6.0.1.
- Battery level: 50%~.
- Battery after plugging the charger: 0%.
- What was I doing: device was idling in my desktop.
- NOTE:
- Unlike Nexus 6p, that using the charger was a must to be able to boot it up, Nexus 5 tried to boot without plugging the charger, but as it didn't have battery, it died again.
- Although it's 3 years old, it had never had any issues. Too much coincidence it has now this same issue.
Points of interest:
- Android version looks irrelevant. It's not Nougat as some people say.
- Looks like it's a software issue and not a Nexus 6p hardware-related issue: Nexus 5 (my own experience, also read #999), Pixel (as per Reddit), Moto X (#566, #988), Nexus 5X (#602), Huawei Honor 4C (#1010)...
- It's not related to battery degradation: brand new devices (not refurbished) are failing as well.
- I'd say it's not related to cold: where I live the average is around 20'C.
- Two types of shutdown: one loses all the battery (i.e. after plugging the charger, it starts from 0), the other keeps it (i.e. after plugging the charger, it starts from the same or slightly lower battery level)
Ne mora da znaci da je samo 6p ugrozen. Pre ce biti SW problem, koji Google bas i nece da prizna, prebacuje i govori kako su falicne baterije, dok Huawei govori kako je SW problem.
