The new edition of the German games magazine Gamestar contains an eight pages long cover-story of Gothic 3 and 12 minutes of video footage. The article holds a lot of new info and also some clearifications.

# Below is a short summary of the new info:You will learn/gain magic powers through quests.
# Spells can be learned at the shrines of the gods.
# You will always need one hand free, when casting a spell. Or in other words you can hold a sword in one hand and cast a spell with the other. You can't cast spells while holding a shield.
# There will be magic wands and staffs.
# Mages will be able to slow time, but they will become slower too.
# There will be around 60-70 perks, different skills, to learn.
# One screenshots shows a mage getting wings. Whether it allows you to fly or is some kind of transformation spell isn't known. The character is standing in front of a troll and a red beam of light goes up in the air, while the character gets wings similar to those of a dragon.
# One perk improves the effectiveness of your armor.
# The sixth, until now unknown, fraction will be the druids (previously only know as some forest race). The other fractions are: Orcs, Rebels still loyal to the king, Assassins, Nomads and the barbarian Orc Hunters.
# Why the Assassins are working together with the orcs is unknown.
# There will be a tutorial to learn you the basics.
# You will be able to hire an old friend or mercenary AND you're able to equip him with weapons, armor, etc.
# The slaves in the released movies are only wearing swords because the unarmed combat isn't implemented yet.
# Voice recordings are in progress at the moment.
# And last but not least the game is for 85% done.

Paladins i mercenaries kao frakcije njente ?! :( Nadam se da se oni podrazumevaju pod 'Rebels'-ovima...

- Sta je sad ovo ?! Pa zar nece biti jedinstven izgled junaka? Nadam se da se ovo odnosilo na to da igrac izabere da li je junak mercenary, paladin ili mage po dolasku u mainland, da bi se omogucio sto verniji nastavak na dvojku, pa da igrac moze da nastavi tamo gde je stao ubivsi undead zmajceka...

Ostalo sve lepo zvuci, ali meni je najbitnije da atmosfera u igri ostane autenticna, verna prethodnim delovima...Voleo bih da ako se negde bude opisivala/objasnjavala istorija orkova u toku igre, da bude i asocijacija na Sleepera...

To je sigurno.Nisu ni dovodili u pitanje dali ce biti isti lik ili ne,vec koliko sam citao da li ce krenuti od prvog levela ili ce imati neke znake herojstva,iscrpljen od uzasa koji je pre toga doziveo.Mada,nisam hteo puno da citam,hocu da se iznenadim kada stigne.

Necemo bas kretati od nule (krecemo od lvl1 logicno), ali cemo vec biti upoznati sa nekim skillovima!

Da li su stvarno likovi 10x detaljniji?Meni ne deluje tako.Interesuje me samo kako ce uraditi ovo sa tri zavrsetka.
 
Hmm..nekako mi shadowbeast ne deluje bas ubedljivo + manja od minecrawlera ?! + deluje mi nekako pitomo :), no videcemo :)

To je zato sto nema zvuka da docara! Secas se iz prethodnih delova, lvl2 + naletis na shadowbeasta + cujes urlik + sve to u pola3 ujutru = ukenjas se svetski!

Saving the world, one Orc at a time...

When you think of an epic role-playing adventure set in a wide-open fantasy world with an engrossing story, extensive character development, interesting non-playing characters and fantastic atmosphere, people, particularly in North America, will think of the Elder Scrolls series. However, another series of titles has been thrilling gamers in the role-playing domain and the next adventure in that series is the upcoming Gothic 3.

Created by German developer Piranha Bytes, Gothic 3 is the next adventure in the successful role-playing series. Published by Aspyr Media in North America and JoWooD Productions elsewhere, Gothic 3 takes the player on an adventure of heroic proportions where the fate of the world lies entirely in your hands!
The story thus far...

Many long, hard years of defending the land have substantially weakened the kingdom of Myrtana. The king, desperate to increase the production of ore, decided to magically seal the mines on the island of Khorinis so that the slave labour (prisoners who have been found guilty of all sorts of major and minor offences) may enter but not leave the mining areas. The king knows that, as is common in all mythical realms, evil will arise from its ashes once again and the precious magical ore found in the mines will be necessary to build the weapons he desperately needs to defend the kingdom.

At the start of the Gothic series, our nameless protagonist found himself in the position of being newly convicted of a crime and pushed through the magical barrier on Khorinis to serve his sentence. He ends up joining one of the factions who inhabit the sealed area and eventually becomes the hero who saves the world from the mighty evil “Sleeper”. Gothic II picked up immediately where the first game left off, as our champion regained consciousness from the final conflict only to learn that in its last, dying breath the Sleeper managed to awake even more wickedness and once again he was thrown into a bold struggle to save his homeland from the forces of evil.

This third time around, our hero will find himself traveling to the mainland where the Orcs have enslaved the human kingdom. Pockets of human resistance remain but the decision on how exactly to proceed is completely open - siding with the ruling Orc army may even be an option worth considering. Every game will play out with its own unique story and in the end the player will decide the fate of the entire human race

Home by the sea...

The mainland of the world itself consists of many settlements in the Middle Kingdom (currently occupied by the Orcs) as well as the untamed regions to the North and South (snowbound and desert regions respectively). The northern and southern regions are less settled and explored and so offer the greatest opportunity for uncovering ancient hidden secrets. It is through exploration of all of these regions that our hero will grow in power and stature in a class-free character development system that allows for the use of more than 50 powerful spells and a hundred different weapons. The combat system has been improved to behave in a more natural, fluid way with the character's growth in experience eventually allowing for special combat skills (such as dual-wielding).

The graphics appear to be what you’d expect for a game of this nature and should compare to Oblivion’s presentation with lush environments and impressive rendering of both the spells you unleash and the creatures you will encounter. With respect to audio, the Gothic series has always voiced more of the dialog than most games in this genre and Gothic 3 doesn’t stray from that presentation style. All in-game dialogue is voiced by professional actors which will definitely help draw players into the game. The music is performed by a symphony orchestra but also takes advantage of a variety of unique instrumentation to help create a soundscape that will add atmosphere to an already mood-filled experience.
Final Thoughts

Both Gothic I and Gothic II were very well received both critically and by the gaming public. The open-ended universe and plethora of side-quests and detailed characters to interact with (who also kept realistic schedules) made both games incredibly immersive experiences. Piranha Bytes looks to submerge gamers in even more adventuring goodness with Gothic 3 by offering countless side-quests involving more than fifty different monster types and dozens of human enemies. The harsh realism of the world is another major selling point – the way that the NPCs interact with the character (and with each other) will distort the line between true good and evil and it will be left to the player to determine what they actually consider to be right and wrong. Piranha Bytes is aiming to dramatically elevate the scope of Gothic 3 over the previous games with not only stunning artificial intelligence and graphics but with this deeper, intriguing tale that will average 60 to 80 hours of play, and even longer for those who choose to follow all of the available side-quests.

With a team of only 19 people (which is quite small in this day in age of game development) Piranha Bytes is shooting high with Gothic 3. They truly seem to be on-track to deliver a completely immersive adventure that will appeal to the role-playing crowd while drawing in new fans as well. With a pending release in September or October of this year we don’t have long to wait to learn the fate of the enslaved humans of Myrtana.

Description: The first video introduces the Middle Realm of the vast land of Myrtana. This realm is a lush, beautiful area filled with rivers, streams, towering trees all manner of wildlife and awe-inspiring mountain views. Towering over the realm is Faring Castle, once a proud citadel protecting both the capital city of Vengard and the northern mountain pass to the realm of Nordmar and its precious ore mines. Currently Faring is occupied by the Orcs, who have conquered the land and now rule over the humans with an iron fist, and their leader, Kan. It is said that gaining access to Kan and earning his trust will open paths to new and exciting areas of Myrtana.

Gothic 3 at the opening concert of this year's Games Convention

The Games Convention 2006 in Leipzig, Germany's biggest electronic entertainment exhibition, starts with a fabulous event: The opening concert in the Gewandhaus Leipzig on August 23rd, 2006. Music from various games will be performed live by a symphony orchestra. Solo musicians and a choir will contribute to a fantastic musical experience.
The opening concert features two themes from the Gothic 3 soundtrack. Thus, the concert forms a great prelude to the extensive presentation of Gothic 3 on the Games Convention.

Hi folks!

A very special event will take place during this year's Games Convention in Leizig, Germany. JoWood Productions, Koch Media and we Piranhas invite you to the big Gothic 3 camp. A meadow on the exhibition grounds has been booked for you and this area will be turned into paradise for Gothic 3 fans. You can join the camp with your own tent, meet Gothic players from all around the globe and spend some great days with us.

According to my experience, the community camps promise much fun and the mere get-together with so many fans is an absolute highlight already. On top of that, this year's Gothic 3 camp will offer much more: A medieval market, some show-performances, a Gothic 3 tent with PCs and a playable demo of the game plus great surprises.

I myself will be there, too, and I'm looking forward to long evenings and exciting discussions with you.

The most important information very briefly:
Registration: 07/26/2006 - 08/07/2006
Place: A meadow on the Games Convention site, Leipzig, Germany
Time: Thursday, 08/24/2006 till Sunday, 08/27/2006. Arrival at any day during the camp, 8 - 10am and 7 - 10pm. Departure at any desired time.
Costs: None, it's on us. But you still have to pay for the entry ticket to the exhibition.
Participants: There is enough space for appx. 150 tents.
Tents: Only small tents for 1 or 2 people are allowed! (max. 3 x 3,50m incl. tent pegs and ropes)
Food and drink: Self-catering. It's allowed to have barbecue (no gas!). Small snacks will be served during special events.
