CRYTEK: NO CRYSIS IN THE NEXT GEN
Keepers of the awesome looking Crysis engine rule out a leap onto the next-gen - at least for now
13:33 We got our first in-game look at Crysis, Crytek's spiritual successor to its awesome Far Cry, on Friday, and utterly marvellous it's looking too. However, we can't reveal too much more at the moment - otherwise elite EA hit squads would be no doubt dispatched and an assassin's bullet heading our way. But we did manage to glean some interesting views in conversation with Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of the company.
Naturally with such a saucy game engine on view, one of our first questions was whether Crytek was looking beyond PC and hoping to the bring the game - or at least that amazing looking engine - to next-generation consoles. With the likes of Unreal Engine 3 licensed to just about every console imaginable, it might seem a natural progression for developers to make the most of their tech. However, according to Yerli, it seems Crysis won't be heading to the next-gen, at least in the very near future.
"It crossed our minds," said Yerli on the next-gen question, "but we're sticking with PC. One thing about our company is that we want to focus, we don't want to do multiple things, we want to do one thing and do it well. PC is our focus right now, we were born there and we want to showcase what we can do there, before we made any move onto consoles."
So no next-gen Crysis for the moment at least, and PC fans will have cause for cheer, knowing one of the most exciting shooters in development is heading exclusively onto the big beige box. But, perhaps hope is not totally lost for next-gen fans and that concluding hint of 'before we made any move onto consoles' might see a future Crytek-engined title queued up for the future.
