AOL gives 22 million AIM users a free 2GB email account
America Online has launched AIM Mail, a free, webmail service offering up to 2GB of storage.
The service is available to users of AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), the company's IM client. AIM Mail comes as part of the new Version 5.9 of AOL Instant Messenger.
With 2GB of storage, the struggling internet service provider aims to compete in the webmail space with Yahoo; Google, whose Gmail also offers 2GB of storage; and Microsoft's Hotmail, which offers an eighth of the storage capacity.
