The James Webb Space Telescope has just witnessed something extraordinary: six ancient galaxies in the early universe are colliding and merging into what could become one of the largest galaxies ever to exist.
The light from this cosmic construction site traveled for nearly 12 BILLION years before reaching us. That means we're seeing these galaxies as they were when the universe was only 1.8 billion years old.
And here's the mind-blowing part...
All six galaxies are packed into a region smaller than our own Milky Way, yet together they already contain hundreds of billions of stars. They are also creating new stars at a furious rate—up to 163 stars every single year. For comparison, the Milky Way forms only about one or two stars annually.

At the center of this chaotic dance, astronomers have found a young supermassive black hole that is growing alongside the galaxies themselves.
We are literally watching the birth of a cosmic giant.

Every massive galaxy you see in the universe today—including our own Milky Way—was built through collisions like this. In fact, about 4.5 billion years from now, the Milky Way and Andromeda will also collide and merge into a completely new galaxy.

The universe is not a static place. It is alive, evolving, and constantly reshaping itself on scales so vast they are almost impossible to imagine.
And yet, tonight, from our tiny planet, we can witness an event that began billions of years before Earth even existed.
