Ernő Rubik was a professor of architecture and interior design. In 1974, he created the Rubik’s Cube to help his students understand three-dimensional design.

But after mixing up the cube, he faced an unexpected problem—he couldn’t return it to its original state.
Determined to solve it, Rubik began experimenting with different moves and patterns.
Step by step, he worked it out. He first solved the corners of one side, then positioned three edges, followed by the remaining corners, and finally placed the last edges correctly.
In total, it took him about one month to solve his own invention.
And that is how the world’s most famous puzzle was first solved—by its own creator.
