Evo izvoda iz ovogdisnjeg Karmakovog keynotea sa QuakeCona 2005:
3:17: Q4 Q&A Session over; John Carmack coming out
- 3:25: Simultaneous console release - X360 mentioned
- 3:25: PC version may come out before or at same time as console version
- 3:27: Development has been made easier thanks to far fewer vid chips to develop for
- 3:30: Carmack will buckle down on X360 development for next 6 months or so
- 3:30: PC version will then be checked again to be sure drivers at that time work fine
- 3:30: Carmack not happy with Microsoft's stance on OpenGL vs. D3D
- 3:34: Carmack warns that Xbox 360 technology is not "as powerful as it sounds"
- 3:35: In comparison to high-speed AMD/Intel system, X360 runs about half as fast
- 3:36: Multi-processing isn't easy to work with despite access to powerful VGA cards
- 3:38: The "return" from multi-processing on X360 won't be as glorious as some originally thought
- 3:40: Parallel programming = tough, even on consoles; performance benefit vs. extra time
- 3:41: Questions use of multi-processors; thinks out-of-order processors would've been better for this generation; expects next-gen to be better for parallel processing
- 3:43: Wishes that developers could create Lord of the Rings-quality graphics in games
- 3:47: Carmack receives bottle of water on cue
- 4:00: Carmack discusses more development "stuff"
- 4:03: No more Punkbuster from here on out (Q4)
- 4:07: It's not really about the source code, but rather the execution; developers "over-value" source code
- 4:29: Carmack is not looking forward to seperate physics cards; too complicated
- 4:48: Carmack sold his Ferrari F50 recently; using BMW X5; wife using Z8
- 4:51: $100 million games are just around the bend
- 4:51: More manpower = more money
- 4:53: Carmack Keynote is complete
JC je samo potvrdio ono sto su mnogi developeri vec rekli a tice se razvoja igara na multicore CPU-ovima novih konzola! Bize zayebano i uz diskutabilne rezultate!
id software is doing some research on the PS3 and Xbox360. the nintendo revolution is not currently on id future plans.
- IBM may have introduced the multi core / SPE architecture to the console arena one generation too soon; it's too much of a dramatic shift.
- parallel programming is and will continue to be very difficult to realise significant benefits. i have personal experience with parallel programming so i agree.
- Carmack admits he's not a AI or physics programmer so he's pretty much neutral in this regard.
- with graphics there's many techniques to achieve your goals where you can tailor the solution as appropriate but with physics you pretty much have to model the system precisely all the time.
- Sony is toying with the idea of an "open model" for software development on the PS3. Carmack doesn't know too much about the details but he thinks some barriers in becoming a PS3 dev may be somewhat relaxed. Microsoft is not heading down this route and instead will maintain is strict hold on what gets developed and released on the Xbox360.
Jedva cekam gamespyove video klipove keynotea!
Razocaran sam sto nije odrzao obecanje od prosle godine i dao slikoviti uvid u ono na cemu radi!
