An XBox mod chip which should allow Microsoft's game console to play home made (and pirated) software has hit the market. The XTender is due to be followed shortly by two other mod chips.
The XTender promises a work-around to Microsoft copy-protection schemes. However, it's unlikely that pirated software will be as common on the consoles as on PCs, because it is so difficult to install the mod chips.
Pirated software isn't the only advantage of the mod chips. Developers with the XTender could test their own software on the XBox. Microsoft, however, is still looking for ways to block distribution of the chips.
