"Photoshop 8 (codename Dark Matter) looks set to feature an NTSC/PAL/HD preview, showing a definite move towards digital video, plus a unique Filter Layers feature enabling you to apply filters in a non-destructive way to layer content - in a similar way to Adjustment layers. Sources confirm that better 16-bit support will be present, as will the ability to work with non-square pixels and improved support for pdf. Adobe will also integrate recently released RAW and JPEG 2000 plugins into the app
Indesign 3, set for release late summer, will concentrate mainly on eBook authoring tools.Support for audio, animation and video is said to be included in the eBook authoring tools, as is the ability to create rollover buttons in PDF documents. Our sources also claim that a Bookmarks palette enables you to create bookmarks in PDF files. A handy separations palette enables you to view overprint previews as well as view ink limits and individual plates. New Layer functionality enables you to apply wrap text across hidden layers. Other new features we're likely to see included improved bleed options, master page functionality tweaks, and the ability to import various MS Office documents.
As we go to press, a mass of seemingly genuine details of the new release of Illustrator have come to our attention, Unsurprisingly, the release is tiped to have some 3d functionality, in the form of a very Dimensions-like range of options. Immediate impresions are that 3D tools on offer could surpass those found in the excellent Freehand MX. The 3D options palette features four sections - Rotate, Effect, Surface and Lighting-each of which give different options for transforming and altering your 3d object. A primitive-looking rotation sphere enables you to quickly set up the rotation angle of your object, X, Y and Z input fields enabling you to set up precisions rotations.
The Effect section of the palette enables you to specify extrusion options, including the depth and cap, and you can add a bevel or specify the height and extent. The Surface section enables you to quickly add a surface effect to your vector object, and with a number of sliders for adjusting Ambient, Blendsteps, Matte and Gloss properties, the surface options look to be very comprehensive. Finally the Lighting section enables you change the light direction and colour - as well as the intensity. It looks to be a great response to Freehand Extrude feature, added in MX release.
Our sources also claim tha other new features of the forthcoming release include Microsoft Office import and support for the new PDF 1.5 as well as a new PDF Styles feature. Illustraror 11 apparently borrows many features from InDesign, sporting a new Glyphs palette and a new text wrap feature. Improved font management tools are here, as is a new OpenType palette. Expect a faster Illustrator, with many of the bugs that plagued the OS X version now ironed out. The app will also run under Mac OS X only on the Mac platform"
