The title aims to parody and pay homage to the muscle-bound overly-macho protagonists and the excessive violence, profanity, and immaturity that mainstream video games are rife with. However, the remnants of old-school gaming remain in Dudebro II, which will be a top-down shooter with power-ups, pixel-art story sequences, and over-the-top boss fights that no bro should mess around with. While being called Dudebro II, the game is the first in the series, because any hardcore gamer knows that sequels are better than the original.

In the dark depths of the Internet, there exists a forum called NeoGAF. Despite — and perhaps because of — its stringent registration requirements and moderation, many consider it the quintessential gaming forum.
On December 7, 2009, member Cuyahoga made a thread titled “So I decided to rent Imagine: Babyz Fashion…”
It didn’t start out so well.
After member Arpharmd B accused him of being a pedophile, Cuyahoga responded by saying, “So, I’m a pedophile because I don’t want to play Dudebro, My **** is ****ed Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It’s Straight-Up Dawg Time? To throw around these sort of accusations at someone who seeks to do something different suggests quite the insecurity on your part.”
The title caught GAFfers’ attentions immediately. After a bit of discussion about it and member [Nintex] mocked up a fake game cover, members Jocchan and Thetrin took the concept to the next level by doing a piece of concept art and writing an opening cutscene, respectively. Once member Mik2121 made a 3D model of the main character based on Jocchan’s art, Dudebro was no longer a simple “meme.” Things took off from there, with more than 100 volunteers joining to work on the project within weeks of its conception.
Dudebro II is a top-down shooter parodying dudebro-style games, gamers and game makers. It is a satirical commentary on the industry as a whole and its reliance on sequels and violent, action-heavy titles starring macho protagonists and overly sexualized women.
Planned for release later in 2010, the game is being developed with the Unity3D engine and will be playable in any browser compatible with the Unity Web Player. The game’s protagonist, John Dudebro, will be portrayed by Jon St. John, who is known for his work as the voice of Duke Nukem.*
And why is there a number two in its title? Because it’s the sequel to a fictional game — after all, everyone knows that sequels are better than original IPs in the gaming industry.
*Duke Nukem is a registered trademark of Apogee Software, Ltd.
CLEVELAND (June 15, 2010) — Grimoire Assembly Forge launched the official website Tuesday for its upcoming 3D top-down shooter titled “Dudebro™ — My **** Is ****ed Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It’s Straight-Up Dawg Time” at dudebro2.com.
The independent developer announced it would update the website each Monday and Friday revealing new details about the game, from developer roundtables and character biographies to music clips and screenshots.
Speaking of screenshots, the site features the first bullshot from Dudebro™ II — yes, a bullshot, since everyone knows a game can’t garner hype without releasing a doctored screenshot or two.
And just like clockwork, the website reveals a new teaser trailer created to pay homage to a certain movie that classic film buffs might recognize.
“Dudebro™ II” follows the exploits of elite soldiers John Dudebro™ and his sidekick Habemus Chicken as they chase anyone who threatens the world’s brodiocity. Featuring the vocal talents of Jon St. John, the legendary voice actor of Duke Nukem*, “Dudebro™ II” both parodies and pays homage to the game industry as a whole.
Built on the Unity 3D engine, the game is set for release later in 2010 for free. It will be playable within any PC or Mac Internet browser compatible with the Unity3D Web Player plugin.
Grimoire Assembly Forge is predominantly comprised of members of NeoGAF, one of the foremost video game industry discussion communities. The Dudebro™ team, which includes both industry veterans and talented game development novices, is more than 130 volunteers strong — all unpaid. They are distributed all over the planet, from North America to Europe to Asia.
