In May 2007, Frankfurt, Germany-based Crytek announced it was working on an all-new IP at its satellite studio in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. At the time, the PC-centric developer of Crysis and the original Far Cry gave few details about the game, other than that it would use the same CryEngine 2 as Crysis. However, CEO managing director Faruk Yerli made a point of saying that the middleware can "run on multiple platforms," sparking speculation it could be Crytek's first console effort.
That's not a war face! Now let me see your war face!
This week, rumors about Crytek's mystery game flared up again, thanks to a filing with the US Patent and Trademark office. The filing, first submitted on February 25, registers the title "Warface" for both trademark also covers ancillary forms of entertainment such as "computer enhancements for games" and "multimedia publishing of books, magazines, journals, software, games, and music."
Is Warface the title for the previously revealed game? Or is it the unnamed PSP title that's reportedly in the works at Crytek's studio in Budapest, Hungary? For now, there is no firm answer. Attempts to solicit comment from Crytek or its publishing partner Electronic Arts were unsuccessful as of press time.
