Open-Sourcing Software Repositories

https://blog.dash.org/open-sourcing-software-repositories-effc2a8c0a00

Hey Dash community!

I’m so happy to announce the open-sourcing of our Dash Platform software repositories, including our Distributed API (DAPI) and Drive. The Dash Platform is one of 3 parts, along with Core and DashPay Wallet, which together collectively form what is commonly known as Evolution.

The process is in the final stages. We’ve been silently releasing in batches, in an order which makes sense based on dependencies (so, more foundational components are released first, then higher-level afterwards). This on-going effort should be finished by the end of this month.

Product Brief: Dash Core Release v0.14.0 (now on testnet!)

https://blog.dash.org/product-brief-dash-core-release-v0-14-0-now-on-testnet-8f5f4ad45c96

Dash Core v0.14, recently introduced to testnet, is the next major delivery milestone for the Dash Core protocol. This release includes the following major features:

Long Living Masternode Quorums (“LLMQs”), which will increase scalability through improved consensus and expand the universe of potential use cases of the network;
LLMQ-based ChainLocks, which leverage LLMQs to improve network security by mitigating 51% mining attacks; and
LLMQ-based InstantSend, using LLMQs to reduce the messages propagated on the network for InstantSend transactions, which increases the scalability of InstantSend on the network. (Note: LLMQ-based InstantSend may be released to mainnet in a minor release, after the first two features have been introduced.)
This release also includes some Bitcoin backports, legacy cleanup, and general optimizations. Full release notes will be available closer to the mainnet release.

Announcing The Dash DAO Irrevocable Trust Election Results

https://blog.dash.org/announcing-the-dash-dao-irrevocable-trust-election-results-bfe134c113b0

We are now in the final steps to full implementation of the governance vision for Dash Core Group that started with the formation of DCG in July 2017. The Trust, upon its formation in December of 2017, was granted 100% of the shares in DCG. With this election complete, the trust itself is now overseen by independent trust protectors and trustees. The network can now affect change at DCG through decision proposals the trust protectors can implement, without resorting to defunding DCG (an action I’ve referred to in the past as the “nuclear option”). We believe this creates far greater accountability of DCG to the network. Indeed, this establishes a legally binding fiduciary duty to the Trust and ultimately the network itself.

Deterministic Masternode List and Automatic InstantSend Now Live

https://blog.dash.org/deterministic-masternode-list-and-automatic-instantsend-now-live-f2028d833388

Deterministic Masternode List
Now, the network uses a single source of truth (the deterministic masternode list) to determine the recipient of the masternode portion of the block reward in a transaction, rather than relying on peer-to-peer messages to work this out.

Automatic Instant Payments
The team is also excited to now offer network users automatic instant payments for transactions with 4 or fewer inputs. These transactions represents over 90% of transactions on the Dash network, so almost all users will benefit from this feature — at no additional cost.

Suspect Apprehended in Historic Heist of Over 74,900 Dash

https://dashnews.org/suspect-apprehend-in-historic-heist-of-over-74900-dash/

An Israeli man has accused his roommate of stealing 74,990.74 Dash (around $9 million USD currently) or 0.85% of the current circulating supply from his wallet last month.

The accuser, Yarmolenko, who has been an early investor in cryptocurrencies, said in the indictment document that he taught the suspect, Zard, about cryptocurrencies over the years. Allegedly, Zard had unencumbered access to the apartment and Yarmolenko’s room and laptop, which he used to transfer the Dash to his own four wallet addresses. The indictment specifically names Zard in committing “theft in aggravated circumstances, money laundering and penetration of a computer to commit an offense”.

The victim previously reached out to the Dash community asking for help in retrieving his funds. Luckily, the Dash community was able to point him in the right direction to authorities so he was not left alone trying to figure out a solution, which also speaks to the benefits of having a supportive community like Dash.

An Introduction to Dash Platform, DAPI, and Drive

https://blog.dash.org/an-introduction-to-dash-platform-dapi-and-drive-9d080d6e89c9

In order to facilitate the development of this new wallet, as well as many other use cases, DCG is building Dash Platform, an application development platform leveraging Dash’s masternode network and blockchain. Comprised of two main architectural components, Drive and DAPI, these components turn the Dash p2p network into a cloud, through which developers will be able to integrate their applications. For our MVP release, the platform will primarily act as a Database as a Service, using data contracts to define custom data structures for applications, storing that application data on our masternode network, and notarizing that data via our blockchain.

Dash Activates DKG Spork, LLMQs Enhancing Network Security and Performance

https://dashnews.org/dash-activates-dkg-spork-llmqs-enhancing-network-security-and-perfomance/

Dash has recently activated the DKG (distributed key generation) DIP 0006, which is a protocol that enables the formation of Long-Living Masternode Quorms to enhance the performance and scalability of the network.

The spork comes not too long after the release of version 0.14 which utilizes LLMQs to lock-in blocks on a first seen rule. This mitigates 51% attacks since a miner cannot secretly mine and then suddenly reveal their chain and attempt to reorg the blockchain.

ChainLocks and LLMQ-Based InstantSend to activate tomorrow

https://blog.dash.org/chainlocks-and-llmq-based-instantsend-to-activate-tomorrow-2c74ae9733c0

We are excited to share that we will begin the process to fully activate ChainLocks and the new version of InstantSend tomorrow, July 2, at 8AM UTC.

The process will start with the deactivation of the “old” (current) version of InstantSend. The team will then wait for 24 blocks until all locks are mined or expired (approximately 1–2 hours). During that time, InstantSend will not be available. This is to ensure a smooth transition to the new system. After all the “old” locked transactions are mined or expired, we will enable the new version of InstantSend using the LLMQ-Based InstantSend spork (spork 20). As described in previous posts, the new version uses long living masternode quorums (“LLMQs”) to lock transactions, instead of the old quorum system.

After monitoring the network for about 1 hour from the activation of the new InstantSend to ensure the transition was successful, we will fully enable ChainLocks with spork 19. With DIP8 already in place, this step will allow for blocks to begin getting locked. This will also allow for “chained” InstantSend to begin occurring, allowing for instantly respendable payments.

Dash Activates ChainLocks 51% Attack Protection, Becomes Most Secure Decentralized Currency?

https://dashnews.org/dash-activates...n-becomes-most-secure-decentralized-currency/

Early this morning, the last two sporks, or multi-phased forks, of Dash version 0.14 were activated, completing the multi-staged activation of the ambitious network upgrade. First, the old version of Dash’s InstantSend, which was enabled automatically for 90% of transactions, and which locked transactions for several confirmations, was deactivated. Next, the new version of InstantSend, based on long-living masternode quorums (LLMQs), was activated, affecting all Dash transactions, allowing them to be both instantly confirmed and instantly able to be respent. Finally, ChainLocks was activated, protecting the network against 51% mining attacks by leveraging LLMQs and the masternode network.
