A lot of people were very excited by Crystal Dynamics’ showing of Tomb Raider during Microsoft’s pre-E3 media briefing the other day. But there were also some criticisms flying around the web. Didn’t it seem to lack flow a little? Didn’t there seem to be an awful lot of quick-time events in quick succession?
Well, yes, say Crystal Dynamics. Because that was actually 15 minutes of game chopped down into a five and a half minute demo.
Quoted in VG247‘s preview of the game, global brand director Karl Stewart said: “A lot of [...] people only saw the six minute demo yesterday. And I’d love for them to read some of the articles that are coming out about the full demonstration, because we had to condense a 15 minute experience into five-and-a-half minutes.
“So you saw a lot of things that were condensed together, which is not the vision for our game necessarily. You also saw a couple of quick-time events that were really mashed together.”
It’s reassuring. There were times during the public demo when the game seemed a little too much like Call of Duty: Tomb Raider for comfort. Let’s hope the game itself is indeed more carefully paced.
