Crystal Dynamics Posts Job Listings for Tomb Raider 2, Reveals Some Gameplay Details
-The Systems Designer listing states responsibilities include “RPG lite elements, character progression, game difficulty, player mechanics, economy, combat difficulty, world systems design and general maintenance from concept to ship.”
Last year’s Tomb Raider reboot made good use of RPG-lite elements and character progression. The mention of an economy could relate to either a monetary economy or, more likely, the exchange of items and resources for a crafting mechanic.
-The Combat Systems Designer listing states responsibilities include “Enemy AI, combat behaviours, stealth, player weapons and tools, cover and melee based mechanics.” The phrase ‘cover-based’ is used repeatedly, hinting the sequel’s gameplay will follow the style of last year’s Tomb Raider outing.
The chosen candidate is also expected to help design “fun enemy behaviors, stealth rules and assault combat systems that a wide variety of players can relate to.” So expect stealth gameplay and some quirky AI.
-The Cinematics Lead posting says the chosen candidate is expected to “ensure the best possible fusion of storytelling, aesthetics, and gameplay experience”, and is also required to have a “Minimum 4 years’ experience, and have shipped at least one console title that was cinematic heavy.”
Last year’s Tomb Raider had a well balanced ebb and flow between gameplay and cinematics, similar to those seen in the Uncharted and God of War series.
